Lesson Guide and Prices...


From beginners to advanced, lessons are tailored to suit each individual student.


Lessons cover classical performance Grades 1-8, using both the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, and Trinity College London syllabuses. This also includes technical work such as scales, aural training and sight-reading.


Key skills such as Learning by Ear and Improvisation are taught through a variety of different styles such as Jazz, Folk and Pop.



Learning to play with confidence and pride, is one of the key aims for students at Bows & Bridges. 


Lessons provide students with the opportunity to perform in a variety of ways, such as solo and ensemble. Students are also invited to take part in our Concerts and Events throughout the year.


Monthly Practice Logs are used to help students keep a regular practice routine.

Music Theory tuition is included in all lessons, as it gives a solid understanding of written music.


Music Theory is taught using the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, Grade 1 - 8 syllabus.


Each student is allocated weekly/fortnighly homework, and must complete past exam papers at the end of each grade.

For those who have an old instrument around or used to play at school, why not try out the Bows & Bridges Refresher Course.


This is a one off lesson, going over the basics and learning some fun tunes to get you on your way to playing again.

Do l need my own instrument?

Yes, all students require their own instrument. This ensures regular practice outside of lessons, and allows students steady progression on their instrument. Buying an instrument can be daunting, however Claire offers free advice on where to buy, quality, price-range, and instructions on how to correctly measure your child for the right size of instrument.

What can l expect from taking lessons?

By taking up a musical instrument, you will have already have some expectations. Here at Bows & Bridges, you will learn how to master string technique, while having fun doing so. Music Education brings a wealth of new skills, and by taking up lessons you will meet like minded players and feel part of a team. Students are invited to take part in our Concerts and Events, not forgetting our themed lessons on special occassions. 

How often should l come for lessons?

It is recommended for children to attend a weekly 30 minute lesson. Parents are welcome to sit in on lessons, and are expected to help and encourage with practice and homework. Adult students can be more flexible, with a lesson every week or 2 weeks. Adults are expected to maintain agreed practice level and self-motivate.

Does Practice make Perfect?

No, practice makes permanent!! It is important for each student to maintain a regular practice routine, outside of lessons. The main focus for students is to practice as accurately as they can, and are encouraged to be vocal about any problems. Practice Logs are used to help encourage students to complete their goals.
